Mobile Gaming: How to Pick the Right Phone

There’s no doubt that mobile gaming has exploded over the last few years. While both android and iPhone have their unique selling points, each also professes to provide the best gaming experience for users.

For the companies, this battle continues to rage. But what about consumers? The latest technological developments often mean that there’s less to clearly define different phones now than ever before.

Of course, there may be a variety of reasons why you would choose one particular phone over another. If you are looking to play games, particularly the more complex multiplayer types, there are a number of factors that you need to take into consideration.

iOS Often Comes First

If you prefer one particular game such as Call of Duty of FIFA 18, then you’ll find the choice you need in either android or iPhone app stores.

If you want more variation, it might be worth noting that many developers release first in the Apple Store before heading onto android. It’s not just the big titles that do this but smaller, newer games from individual developers. One reason for this is that iOS customers tend to spend more than on android. Another is that development and tweaking the game are seen as easier for iOS versions as there’s limited hardware and software variations to take into account.

If you’re on android, you could be waiting much longer (sometimes up to 12 months) for a release that has already been made available on the iPhone.

Game Range

It’s in the interests of developers to produce their games on all platforms nowadays and, while they may start off on iOS, they are always going to move onto android at some point. At the end of 2017, Apple Store had just under 800,000 gaming apps while Google Apps, the most comparable android market, has a similar range.

Battery Life

If you’re tied into a game and want to play for long periods, the biggest issue you’re going to face is battery life. This has been an issue since the smartphone was developed and not just for gaming. Android phones like Huawei Mate 10 Pro are pretty good but Apple have been working hard – the overly expensive iPhone X is reported to have one of the best batteries around at the moment.

Storage Capability

For gaming enthusiasts who want more than just the latest Candy Crush on their smartphone, storage is always going to be an issue. Anything under 64GB can mean that you quickly run out of room. More phones nowadays are heading towards bigger memories, however. While iPhones have this set when you buy their product, androids often come with the capacity to add additional memory which possibly makes them more flexible. If you’re planning to game a lot on your phone, storage should be top of your list.

Resolution

Smartphone resolution has vastly improved in recent years and, while you generally get what you pay for, image quality is quite high across the board. Some say that the iPhone delivers that little bit extra but there’s not much difference nowadays between that and comparable Samsung products.

When you’re choosing a mobile phone with gaming in mind, there’s less difference than there used to be. A lot comes down to which models you feel comfortable with and whether you’re an android or iOS person at heart.
