5 PS4 Tips For Getting More Out of Your Console

If you’ve just set yourself up with a brand new PS4 and are looking to get the best out of your console, you’ll already know what a powerful gaming experience it can be. While most of us can pick up the basics when it comes to actual gameplay, there are also a few other options that can enhance your experience.

Here are our quick tips for PS4:

1. Use Your Mobile

Inputting text using your DualShock4 can be a little time consuming to say the least. The answer to this is to either plug a keyboard into the PlayStation and type or, even better, use your mobile phone. You can download a second screen remote which can be linked to the console and gives you access to text entry.

Downloading the PS4 app onto your phone used to be a non-starter for gaming experts but it has improved recently. Better usability gives you more access to range of options, though some features such as live streams have been removed. It’s a good place for hints and tips and, while not perfect by any means, Sony is promising a lot more innovations in the future. Worth keeping an eye on.

2. Use Remote Play

There’s nothing worse when you’re in the heart of a game and someone wants to watch the TV. Being told to stop and desist is guaranteed to get the blood pressure rising especially if you’re on a winning streak. PlayStation 4 has the capability for remote play where you can stream your current game to your mobile, tablet or PC. All you need to do is download the appropriate software to your device and you’re good to go. There is a caveat, of course. Particularly if you are playing fast paced shooting games, there can be a lag in performance because of the connection but a lot depends on your set up in the first place.

3. Sharing Your Gameplay

It’s becoming increasingly popular to share gameplay on social media and sites like YouTube. This is pretty easy to do and all you need to hit is the share button. This allows you upload a video clip or screen shot or broadcast your current gameplay. If you want to add your own commentary, you can also go into the options section and enable your mic but only you have the right kind of headset.

4. Save Battery Power

One of the perennial problems with the PlayStation console is the battery power. The good news is that some of this is driven by the light bar which can often be a little too bright. To save some energy and prolong the life of your console, simply go into settings and dim it down.

5. Getting More Storage

Of course, the PS4 comes with a reasonable amount of storage but, if you download a lot of games, you use this space up pretty quickly. There are two options to choose from. You can open up the PS4 and install some extra internal storage, which isn’t as difficult as many people think. Or you can add an external hard drive with a USB 3.0 connection. The latter is by far the easiest and should give you all the space you need to download as many games as you want.
