How Much Does Fortnite Make A Day?

How Much Does Fortnite Make A Day

Fortnite is the multiple player online shooter from Epic Games Studio. Released in 2017 the game has gone on to conquer the world. In its first year of release, it attracted over 125 million players. By 2019 Epic Games boasted it had 250 million total players on the Fortnite franchise across various platforms.

With a large player base comes the opportunity to make big money. So exactly ‘How Much Does Fortnite Make A Day?’ it’s an interesting question and one I’ll attempt to answer below.

Firstly, it’s worthing noting that Fortnite is free to play. You can download it on Xbox, PS, Switch and even on your iPhone. So you might be wondering how a company makes money while simultaneously giving away its product for free? It doesn’t seem to make sense. Well, it does if that game has its own virtual currency which players use to buy additional content, visual upgrades and weapons etc.

The question then becomes, how do you get the virtual currency? You swap real-world money for virtual cash! In Fortnite, the currency used is known as VBUCKS. At the time of writing this article, 1000 V-Bucks would cost you $9.99. Once you have purchased V-Bucks, you can spend them exclusively on Fortnite upgrades and kit.

So how much real-world cash is being exchanged for VBucks? In 2019 Business Insider reported that ‘Fortnite’ made $1.8 billion from the game. However, that amount is a 28% drop in revenue from the 2018 figure ($2.5 billion).

HOW MUCH DOES FORTNITE MAKE?

In 2018 it was estimated that Fortnite was generating over $3 million per day from mobile channels alone. When you consider that XBOX and PS sales were not included in that figure, it’s safe to assume the per day total is much larger than $3 million.

It’s interesting to look at the specifics of how people spend V-Bucks. The most popular purchase for players is ‘Characters and Skins’; these account for 49% of V-Bucks spent. Next is ‘Gliders’ at 15%, and then ‘Harvesting Tools’ at around 10%. Skins can be Marvel Characters, Animal-Based Skins like Horses, Dogs and Cats.

HOW MUCH DO FORTNITE PLAYERS EARN

Epic Games is not the only one making money from the ‘Fortnite’ hype. Thousands of professional gamers and YouTubers are raking in cash by streaming the game online and competing in online tournaments. In 2019 a sixteen-year-old gamer known as ‘Bugha’ scooped $3 million by winning the ‘Fortnite’ World Cup. Another celebrity player is Ninja, and his YouTube channel has over 22 million subscribers. Earning the player around $6 million per year in revenue from streaming his gameplay.

It’s safe to say that ‘Fortnite’ is one of the most lucrative games ever created and not just for Epic Games.
